Wellness and Vaccination Programs

At Usher Animal Hospital we strive for maintaining proper health and well being through prevention. Pets that are of the age of 2-8 yrs. old should, at the minimum, be seen once yearly for a general comprehensive examination. At this time we will do an in depth examination of all body systems including the teeth, eyes, ears, skin and hair, heart, lung, digestive organs, lymph nodes, bones and muscles. It is important for some diagnostics to be assessed as well, to again confirm good health. A comprehensive blood analysis will be done as well as a fecal analysis and a urinalysis. With the computerized laboratory equipment all these tests can be done at The Usher Animal Hospital and results obtained quickly. In the spring dogs will be also tested for heartworm parasites. At the time of examination the appropriate inoculations will be administered.

Pets over 8 years of age should have the above assessments and also a chest radiograph, an EKG and blood pressure. Not a lot different from our yearly visit to our M.D.’s.

We also recommend pets over 12 years have bi-yearly visits. This is especially important in our cats as they can hide a lot of their aging problems to the point of becoming life threatening.
